t-space X MAO

October 26, 2022 to July 5, 2023

MAO recently inaugurated a new phase, #MAOTempoPresente. This marks the opening of the Museum to artistic and creative activities through a structured program of artistic and curatorial residencies. Performers, artists, curators and scholars will be invited to inhabit the collections and exhibition spaces, performing and “staging” the Museum. The brand-new project is based in the renovated t-space and is the result of a collaboration with the eponymous art space founded by Giulia Spreafico and Rui Wu in Milan in 2016.

The t-space in Milan was originally conceived as an independent art space capable of making artistic activity sustainable; over the years it has increasingly turned into a place for project and discussion promoting exchange between artists and the public.

The t-space at MAO is conceived also as a venue for welcoming and sharing: visitors can take a break, drink tea, meet artists and performers, and join the events scheduled from October 2022 to June 2023.

OPENING 26.10.22 at 6.30 PM

The first event of “t-space X MAO” is an invitation to the artists Tiziano Doria and Samira Guadagnuolo (WARSHADFILM) to inhabit the Museum. The artist duo photographed in medium format and shot in 16mm film the exhibition galleries and the works on display exploring and reactivating the Museum. The result is a fluid installation where film and photography dialogue with the MAO historical building and the works on view in the exhibition Buddha10.

IL FERVORE by WARSHADFILM (Tiziano Doria e Samira Guadagnuolo)

Before being perceived, the world is dreamt. And its dream is light as breath that exhales in the air, it fills the space between the earth and the sky, preventing them from falling. From the heavy plasticity of the rocks, of the bronzes and the wood, that overcomes every ordinary contingency, a cloud, a vision, a story told many times, spreads out, an inexhaustible eternal action. There are innumerable suggestions tied to the traditions and to the tales around the figure of Buddha, to his fascinating wisdom, to his previous lives, to the surprising references to subjects and thoughts of the tradition closed to us. What arises from this is a game, an invention, a blooming of shapes into other shapes - an apocryphal tale which ideally joins the 574 lives of Buddha, collected in the Buddhist canon.
