c. 1300-900 BCE
Beige-pinkish earthenware, applied decoration
Cn/8
17,5 x 15,1 x 11,7 cm
Vessel
Provenance: North-western China (Gansu-Shaanxi)
Small globular vessel with a flattened bottom, with high straight neck and rim, two wide diametrically opposed ribbon-like handles that connect the rim to the shoulder of the vessel. The joint between neck and shoulder is underlined by a line etched into the clay before firing. The blackened outer surface of the vessel is entirely covered with vertical and oblique rope impressions. The relief decoration is limited to a strip of clay with vertical notches along the rim and an anthropomorphic head applied to the centre of one of the two faces, where the neck joins the body of the vase.
