TWO HANDLE VESSEL WITH HIGH NECK
c. 1200-950 BCE
Beige earthenware, black decoration painted over the slip
Cn/20
16,3 x 14,1 x 10,6-11,1 cm
Vessel
Provenance: North-western China (Gansu-Qinghai)
This vase is characteristic of Xindian pottery. The well degreased dough contains mica and white granules; the engobe hides the vertical fabric imprints, which spread across almost the entire outer surface of the container. It has a high and wide curved neck, with an expanded rim, grafted onto a slightly convex shoulder which, once the maximum diameter is reached, gradually closes towards the base of the vessel. The base is concave and poorly balanced, a typical feature, along with traces of soot in the lower part of the vessel, of Xindian production. The black painted decoration is not very accurate.
