Provenance: Northern Shaanxi
Part of a portal consisting of two jambs, an architrave and two doors, decorated on the front side. The surface presents a light, smooth relief against a regular, grainy background. A red-orange pigment is applied directly to the stone, covering the decorative elements in an evenly manner. Some minute details are retouched in black, others are engraved. The friezes reproduced on the slabs include decorated bands with plant swirls, figure of knights, female figures, zoomorphic masks, birds with outstretched wings, dragons and taurine unicorns.
