Weapon
Provenance: Central-southern China
The sword is composed of a cylindrical hilt with two annular bulges and a long double-winged blade with a central raised line and very sharp cuts. The hilt is not very thick and presents a rhomboid section with the four sides slightly inclined towards the blade. The handles has a circular pommel, flared on the outside and concave on the inside. The handle is still wrapped in woven silk cords, composed of several threads and slightly elastic: the original color was blue, turned brown by oxidation. The sword was tucked into a scabbard made of two carved wooden plaques that were glued and held together with silk threads that wrapped them tightly, and finally covered with layers of dark lacquer. In the areas where the lacquer is still preserved, it maintains a very bright appearance and lets the density of the silk threads shine through in relief.
