Small tripode jar
First half of 8th century CE
White earthenware with sancai glaze in double firing
Cv/7
13 x 17,7 cm
Vessel
Provenance: China (Henan)
Vase with a flattened spherical body resting on three paw-shaped feet. Short neck and everted hem, folded outwards. A thin engraved thread (under the glaze) marks the passage between the shoulder and belly. The blue, amber and cream glazing drips down the vessel’s body in large composite patches on the underside of the vessel and partially covers the feet. The blue color, obtained from cobalt, is quite rare in Chinese production of this era, and it’s normally replaced by green.
