SMALL JAR WITH LID
7th century CE
White porcellanous stoneware, semi-transparent glaze
Cv/5
9,4 x 12 x 7,5 cm
Vessel
Provenance: Central-northern China (Henan, Hebei)
Small jar with a flattened globular belly and a concave base, placed on a short, slightly flared foot with a flat bottom. The curved neck supports a cup-shaped mouth with a thickened lip. The lid, as wide as the hem, is concave and has a pointed central knob. Semi-transparent glazing with crackles tends towards green where it is thicker, in the hollow parts: this is a characteristic typical of the 7th century. It also covers the inside of the jar and stops, on the outside, quite regularly about 1 cm above the foot. A difference in color can be seen between the lid and the container: the former presents a grey-colored glaze, the latter tends towards creamy yellow with significant impurities and dark spots.
