Description
The bowl has been finished by spatula and carefully sanded. Without a foot, it rests on a flattened bottom and has a concave shape. On the outside, the decoration is limited to a motif of six full arches (or “festoons”) along the rim. The interior decoration of the vessel consists of two large mirror patterns juxtaposed below the rim. Each consists of a diagonal hatch band at the top and three large curved horizontal bands at the bottom, which converge at the ends creating a pointed bean shape. The undecorated space in the center of the cup, spared by the lateral motifs, is almond-shaped. Overall, this type of decoration is not very frequent in Majiayao ceramics.
