Description
The dignitary is portrayed in an audience pose, rigidly standing with his hands folded over his belly. He wears the official headdress of the “crested” type (
liangguan
) and fits the classic court shoes with a raised toe. He has a well-defined face, with a straight nose and drawn details: black eyebrows and eyes with a stern look, a sparse beard and moustache, and a red-painted mouth. He wears a floor-length tunic, crossed in a “V” on the right, with long, wide sleeves. The dress is closed at the front and back by two rectangular protective plates made of semi-rigid material: a sort of apron secured by two straps, one on the chest and the other at the waist. It is painted with motifs of floral medallions in red pigment on the front, remnants of pale green on the back. The tunic was originally reddish-brown, the face and hands pink, the hairstyle and shoes black.
