Provenance: Sichuan
Support of a money tree (yaoqianshu or zhuzhu), an exceptional example for the variety of decoration and freedom of execution. Its bell shape presents two horizontal registers of bas-reliefs, and is surmounted by a figure in the round holding the graft into which the tree trunk had to be inserted. The tubular graft begins at the rump of a winged goat and is held in the arms of a character who rides it, turning its head to the left. The character can be identified as an immortal and is characterized by elements referring to the animal world: large ears, a skirt and a short feathered cape. The winged goat is one of the immortal's mounts and is portrayed here in a dynamic pose, with a long beard and a high central horn and a standing tail. The winged goat is also one of the mounts of the immortals, and is portrayed here in a dynamic pose with a long beard, a high central horn and a standing tail.
