Description
This hollow oven has an almost parallelepiped shape. The front wall, preceded by a flat threshold, has a high bank raised above the hob; at the bottom there is an arched mouth that leads into the combustion chamber. On the opposite side at the top there is a fireplace in the shape of a dragon's head: the long muzzle, with protruding eyes and nostrils, has a perforated mouth for venting smoke. The walls of the oven are decorated with roughly engraved lines, which divide the surface into rectangular frames and square sections; on the shelf, diagonal lines intersected in rectangles create the impression of a network of small rhombuses. In the hob, three round holes are cut in a row to lay as many removable potholes. Structure and decoration of this type of oven are typical of the Canton region in Eastern Han times.
