MALE (?) FIGURE STANDING
2nd century BCE
Grey earthenware, white slip, polychrome pigments
Cc/67.D
75 x 28,6 cm
Funerary statuette
Provenance: Shaanxi (?)
The figure stands with a rigid posture, the arms perpendicular to the body but protruding a little forward in an offering position. Hands and head, removable, were connected to the body by pins. The head is that of a young man with a thin moustache, combed with a central scrimination and a flat bun. He wears various clothes, overlapped and crisscrossed on the right that create a series of very thick 'V' necklines. The white, foot-length outer tunic gives the statue a slender appearance and flares out like a corolla to form the base of the statue. The tunic is tied at the waist with a red belt, its long hem falling almost to the feet and widening in the shape of a blade towards the bottom.
