Description
The arhat,
luohan
in Chinese, sits in the lotus position (
lianhuazuo
), his right leg above his left, with his hands clasped in his lap in the gesture of meditation (
dingyin
). The dignity of the figure is accentuated by the square drapery that covers the front part of the seat. The shaved head forms a full oval, with large ears and a pronounced nose; the eyes are half open, the mouth is narrow and with protruding lips, the neck shows the three folds of beauty. The arhat wears a heavy monastic robe draped in broad folds symmetrical to the median axis of the statue.
