Statue of arhat (Luohan) sitting
The arhat, luohan in Chinese, sits in the lotus position (lianhuazuo), his right leg above his left, with his hands clasped in his lap in the gesture of meditation (dingyin). The dignity of the figure is accentuated by the square drapery that covers the front part of the seat. The shaved head forms a full oval, with large ears and a pronounced nose; the eyes are half open, the mouth is narrow and with protruding lips, the neck shows the three folds of beauty. The arhat wears a heavy monastic robe draped in broad folds symmetrical to the median axis of the statue.
