Provenance: North-western China (Gansu-Qinghai)
Jar with a high, swollen and configured neck. The painted decoration - black on a very smooth and uniform red-ochre background - only affects the upper part of the vase, above the handles. The singular neck, with a truncated cone base, swells at the top to form a sort of bulb that closes in a narrow, straight rim with thin walls. An anthropomorphic head is modeled between the rim and the top of the bulb with two small holes representing the ears. The figurine's slitted eyes are slightly raised; the long, crooked nose marks the transition to the bulge on the neck of the vase; the mouth is simply shaped with added clay. Descending further down the bulb, two small lateral protuberances appear to reproduce breasts.
