HORSE
Second half of 7th century CE
White-pink earthenware, white slip, pigments
Cc/34
51,9 x 52,2 cm
Funerary statuette
Provenance: Shaanxi (?)
The horse, modeled quite realistically, rests in a dynamic pose on a thin base, with its right foreleg gracefully raised. Its head is turned slightly to the left, thus accentuating the overall impression of movement. The animal's body and limbs are robust, the chest powerful, the muzzle details finely and effectively rendered with particular attention to the muscles. The mane, divided into two tufts in front of the ears, is arranged in long, parallel and neat curls on the left side of the neck. The neck is covered almost entirely with white slip and is devoid of the harness.
