38,3 x 35,9-36,3 x19-19,5 cm
Vessel
Provenance: Lower Yangzi Region (Zhejiang?)
Jar of irregular thickness, made with poorly purified dark grey clay. It has a globular shape, expanded on the shoulder and tapering towards the broad, flat base. The neck, finished on the lathe, is very low and with a double everted hem. The first decorative band, under the neck and just a couple centimetres wide, presents horizontal parallel stripes. The remaining surface of the shoulder and the upper part of the belly have a square decoration, recalling the imprint of a thick, coarse cloth. The rest of the belly is imprinted with a pattern of lozanges of approximately 4 cm, consisting of alternating horizontal and vertical striations. Impressions overlap and, as a result, the whole of the decorative design is not very regular.
