The young player, part of a group that includes four other players and a dancer, is depicted sitting cross-legged on a thin square base, playing a flute with both hands. The fingers are well shaped and spaced, as if they were moving. The girl has a round face, made up of pink paint on her cheeks and red on her mouth, black for her eyelashes and eyes. A huandian floral motif is drawn in red on her forehead. The black hair is parted in the middle and is combed in a double bun hairstyle (shuangji). The player wears a low-cut bodice with long, narrow sleeves, a white vest and a full skirt with a long red scarf.
