FIGURE KNEELING
2nd century BCE
Grey earthenware, white slip, polychrome pigments
Cc/68.D
56,4 x 32,3 cm
Funerary statuette
Provenance: Shaanxi (?)
The figure is kneeling, with the arms perpendicular to the body but protruding a little forward in an offering position. Both the head and the hands are removable and were connected to the body by pivots. The head is that of a young person with thick eyebrows, and hair combed with a central parting and a flattened bun. The figure wears various overlapping and crisscrossed clothes on the right, which create a series of very thick “V” necklines. The white outer tunic gives the figure a slender appearance, covers the knees and falls to form the base of the statue. The tunic is tied at the waist with a red belt, the long edge of which falls to the front.
