Description
The object, cup-shaped on a high stem, was used to present food offerings and is composed of three sections fitted together: tray, shaft and foot. The surface of the entire object is covered with bright black lacquer, on which the opaque red and yellow decorative motifs detach: the pigment binder probably contained little lacquer. The top surface of the tray is uniformly painted red, but abrasions and scratches in use reveal the black preparatory layer. The external part of the top surface instead features a main red motif repeated four times, composed of diagonals and scrolls on the black background. In the middle part of the stem, only the central ring is painted red. Below begins another decoration that recalls that of the tray, but more articulated and sinuous, which extends to the base of the foot.
