Late 6th century CE
Bronze, brown-amber patina
Cs/3.D
14,7 x 6,8 cm
Statue
Statue of Buddha and Bodhisattvas
The sculpture depicts a Buddha in high relief, flanked by two Bodhisattvas, against the background of an elongated leaf-shaped plate. The casting is generally inaccurate, and the figures in particular are very sketchy. The Buddha is depicted in a rigidly standing pose, his right hand in abhayamudra and his left in varadamudra, his heavy robes treated schematically and his head crowned with a voluminous ushnisha (rouji in Chinese). The contours of the pointed halo is engraved behind the Buddha. On the rest of the background, numerous wavy lines are drawn to represent tongues of flames. The Buddha rests barefoot on a small hemispherical base, from which two lateral branches branch off. At the end of these branches rest the two Bodhisattvas, considerably smaller than the Buddha, standing with their hands clasped in anjalimudra.
