Statue
Statue of Bodhisattva
Provenance: Shanxi or Shaanxi
This statue probably formed a pair with another (Cs/7), which differs only in the mirror position of the arms. The Bodhisattva sits cross-legged with his hands in the “argument gesture” (vitarkamudra). The seat is composed of two juxtaposed lotus corollas, one facing upwards as support for the sculpture and the other downwards as the actual base. Only the external petals of the flower are sculpted, which are oval and swollen in the centre.
