Additional Infos
Provenance: Eastern China (Western Shaanxi, Gansu)
Description
The plaque depicts a tiger in relief, lying on its side with its long tail curled at the end; only the folded legs on the right side of the body are represented. The head rises turning to the right. The proportions are correct, but the broad legs, square head and straight ears reveal some departure from the actual animal. The mantle is rendered conventionally, by a succession of deeply incised paired arches. The inside of the plate is hollow.
