AMPHORA WITH TWO HANDLES AND A CRUSHED GLOBULAR BELLY
Late 3rd- early 2nd century BCE
Fine-grained grey earthenware
Cv/59.D
29 x 30,6 x 11,5 cm
Vessel
The clarity of the earthenware and the mottled grey-black colour of this pot are linked to the sanding and smoking processes being carried out. It has an ellipsoidal body, connected to a straight circular foot crossed by a low median band: the base is concave and features a square, illegible potter's mark, framed by two double vertical stripes. The neck of the vase is roughly the same width as the base, but twice as high: softly connected to the shoulder, it is underlined by three shaped bands. The hem, straight on the inside, folds out into a thick discoid lip. At the base with the neck it has a fine engraved thread. The cocoon-shaped body is vertically traversed by bundles of three parallel and equidistant lines. On the sides, where they are not hindered by the neck and base of the vessel, they entirely surround the belly in concentric circles.
