37,9 x 28,6 cm

Provenance: North-western China (Gansu-Qinghai)
This vase has the shape and decoration typical of older terracottas of the Majiayao type. It has a high cylindrical neck with an everted hem and a strongly expanded shoulder. Once the maximum diameter is reached, a blunt edge is created at the junction with the belly, under which the vessel gradually narrows to the flat bottom. Two ring-shaped loops are applied at the top of the belly. On the neck five black stripes alternate with white or unpainted stripes. The passage between neck and shoulder is marked by a thick black band; further down, five horizontal lines are counterpointed by three equidistant black circles, each with the circumference dotted with white. Between two thick black bands, the main decorative band is made up of lines and geometric figures in sequence.
