2nd century BCE
Grey earthenware, white slip, red ad black paint
Cc/1.D
55,9 cm x 20,6 cm
Funerary statuette
Provenance: Shaanxi (probably Chang'an)
Female character, probably a dancer, with her hands hidden by wide and long draped sleeves, raised to cover the lower part of her face. Long tight robe close at the hips and flared at the feet, secured at the waist by a belt. The face is delicately shaped, the hair has a central parting and is combed backwards into a long tail that runs down the back. The style of these figurines corresponds to representations of court ladies appearing in tombs in the capital Chang'an in the 2nd century BCE.
